Diamondback brought the Pro back better than ever for 2016, continuing with the proven and highly successful KnuckleBox suspension platform. By relocating all the suspension components forward on the frame, which keeps the center of gravity low for stability while descending. Suspension travel is a more than ample 160mm, while fast accelerating 27.5 wheels provide that roll-over-anything feeling you need for your next challenge. The KnuckleBox linkage is inverted and uses proprietary single sided hardware on the non-drive side of the main pivots for easy access and maintenance. Technology: The KnuckleBox, or bell crank, is the core of DB's single-pivot, four-bar suspension platform. bellcranks translate the vertical motion of the wheel in to horizontal motion, allowing the suspension to be mounted transversely or longitudinally within a vehicle. Optimally placed pivots equate to a low leverage ratio and, ultimately, to superior pedaling efficiency and small-bump compliance. This also allows the shock to work more efficiently and reduces pedal induced motion. The design helps reduce overall load on the system, promoting improved shock and bearing life. Bottom line, locating the KnuckleBox low within the frame results in a lower center of gravity, which allows the bike to track and corner better. Wheel rate is the effective spring rate measured at the wheel, and it is a crucial aspect when considering suspension systems. A benefit of their KnuckleBox four-bar linkage is increased control over the wheel rate. Diamondback works closely with Fox, first obtaining the spring rate curves of their shocks. This enabled Diamondback engineers to optimize wheel rates to be linear, to slightly progressive. You experience superb small bump compliance, more perceived travel, and excellent bottom-out protection. Frame: DB Mission all-mountain 6061-T6 Weapons Grade aluminum full-suspension frame with 27.5 wheels and 6 of travel front and rear. The fork features external rebound, a 15mm FIT thru-axle, and a 1-1/2 tapered steerer. The Mission Pro uses a short head tube, something shorter riders will appreciate. The chainstays are sized to balance nimbleness with stability. The frame also offers plenty of stand over clearance as well as tire clearance. Suspension: The components on the Mission Pro are first rate. At the rear, a FOX Float X2 Factory has adjustable high/low speed compression and adjustable high/low speed rebound, with an 8 eye-to- eye for the increased travel and rebound adjustment. The front fork is a FOX Float 36 Factory with 160mm of travel, FIT4 cartridge for high speed compression with external rebound.
