Niner's name was initially made in the XC market, but the Colorado-based manufacturer defied the naysayers by developing 29ers that dominate in enduro and all-mountain circles. With the BSB 9 RDO Force/Rival Hydro Complete Cross Bike, we're happy to present our own spec of a frame that is once again exceeding the arbitrary boundaries of what we thought Niner's bikes were capable of. While the BSB 9 RDO is durable enough for singletrack compatibility, its design and our build kit are dialed to excel on the competitive cyclocross circuit. The acronym BSB speaks directly to its intended audience: Blood, Sweat, and Beers -- practically a mantra for the 'cross scene around the world. This isn't a Belushi-esque slacker machine, though. Niner meticulously designed frames using computer analysis and lab testing before developing prototypes that it then beat the hell out of before arriving at this disc-brake-only product. The fruits of this process are an aggressive geometry with steep head tube and seat tube angles, short seatstays for tight control and efficient power transfer, and a high bottom bracket to avoid pedal impacts. The fork is a thru-axle version of Niner's award-winning rigid carbon mountain forks specifically dialed for 'cross racing and disc brakes. As with all the mountain frames bearing the Race Day Optimized imprimatur, the BSB 9 RDO is the result of Niner's Carbon Compaction System (CCS) molding process. CCS's aim is to achieve the most strength with the least amount of material by eliminating all excess material without sacrificing handling or lateral stiffness. The process uses rigid internal molds for a more consistent and compact internal tube layering than the usual bladder molds, not only saving weight and boosting strength but ensuring that the interior of the frame is as beautifully seamless as the exterior.
