Eddy Merckx Mourenx69 Ultegra Road Bike - 2016. 1969 was a big year for young Eddy Merckx, and it was defined by his heroic stage win in Mourenx during the Tour de France. His 214.5km solo bid for victory quickly became the stuff of legend, and the inspiration for a bike designed to race long distances: the Eddy Merckx Mourenx69 road bike. The Mourenx69 is a bike that's designed to go big, with a comfort oriented geometry that makes comfort a priority during long, hard days in the saddle. But this is no old man's race bike, with a super upright geometry and big old stack of spacers under the stem. While some modern endurance bikes tend to sacrifice performance in the name of keeping your back comfortable, the Mourenx69 eschews such compromises. Instead, it uses a tuned carbon layup with pencil then seatstays and a svelt fork to deliver comfort, while also delivering up a healthy dose of modern race features. The bike featuers aerodynamically shaped tubes and seatpost to help you set a new PR on your next gran fondo, and a chunky oversized bottom bracket and headtube that deliver plenty of stiffness for all-out efforts. The headtube is a wee-bit taller and the angles a little more slack than their all-out race bikes, but the Mourenx's geometry is still firmly on the go fast side of things. The Mourenx69 is outfitted with a full Shimano Ultegrea 6800 mechanical group that delivers the best mechanical shifting performance available. With all new lever ergonomics, an improved lever throw action, redesigned front derailleur lever arm, Ultegra 6800 comes close to closing the gap between mechanical and electronic shifting, and has set a new industry standard for seamless, smooth shifting. The new 4-arm crank not only looks amazing, but gives you the ability to run almost any sized chainrings you want on a single spider. As it is, the bike comes equipped with compact 50/34 chainrings that give you plenty of top end speed when you need it, with a more forgiving small ring to make those hills a feel a little smaller. And just in case you needed any more reminding that this is a sprint bike, the Sanremo76 is equipped with a Deda RHM02 and Zero2 cockpit and Fulcrum Racing 5 wheels. The Racing 5wheels are an excellent all-around training wheel, with a moderately deep profile so getting up to speed won't be a problem...but neither will the occasional pothole.
