Mongoose Meteore Expert 27.5 Mountain Bike - 2015. Mountain biking nostalgia is important for perspective in the sport, but few of us would actually go back and ride some of the mountain bikes from the good ole days. Today's mountain bikes are just that much better. Still, it's great to see the Mongoose Meteore back at Performance Bicycle again. At one time, the Meteore lined up with our best models, stellar components and great tech. Mongoose has stayed true to the Meteore's high performance roots, but stayed away from making the price tag an obstacle. Now, you can hit the singletrack with the same legendary design at a fraction of the price. The Meteore Expert brings more fun to riding then you thought possible. Its 27.5 wheel size offers the best of both wheel worlds; it's fast and agile. 27.5 mountain bikes are said to be the perfect size for mid-height riders and for good reason. With an improved angle of attack, a 27.5 wheel will roll over faster and easier than a 26-inch wheel. The larger the wheel, the smaller the obstacle relative to the wheel. Sounds easy enough and when you encounter a log or a rock, you quickly learn that this is true. Also, the 27.5 wheel offers improved agility. It's easy to get off the ground and get some air, and it's easier to maneuver through winding and tight singletrack lined with precarious branches. Plus, the 27.5 wheel size yields a lower center of gravity for more stability byway of the relative position of the bottom bracket to the wheel axle. Your body will feel more comfortable and centered as a result. The Meteore features a lightweight aluminum frame with a tapered head tube for improved handling and front end control. A Manitou Marvel Pro fork was chosen for its performance, remote lockout for climbing and road riding, and a 15mm QR for stiffness. A 10-speed Shimano XT/SLX drivetrain features a high performance XT rear derailleur and race-proven set of 10-speed XT shifters. The ground is devoured by a pair of Sun Ringle Black Flag rims and Kenda Slant Six tires. The 2.1 tire width and tread pattern of the Slant Six's make it easy to tear through corners and hit a high mph on a wide open stretch. Funn handlebars and Hayes Prime Comp disc brakes make the look and feel like a custom mountain bike.
